SAFETY & SECURITY PAGE!
|
We know that as parents of a camper, your number one concern is the safety and security of your kids! We want you to know this is a major focus of Grand Oaks.
Grand Oaks Staff and Executive Board have gone the extra mile to insure the safety of our guests.
Our security & safety program includes:
* that all cabins have view holes and locks. Keys are supplied to the cabin leaders. Cabin groups are encouraged to only go to the cabins as a group.
* Grand Oaks encourages guest groups to always have two or more leaders in each cabin group. As of Jan. 1, 2010, all volunteers and staff that are spending the night will be required to certify that a criminal background check has been performed.
* Certified lifeguards are on duty at the pool whenever it is in use.
* Summer camp groups are required to enlist and have on campus a qualified nurse for the duration of the camp session.
* All equipment and buildings on the campus are maintained to the highest standard for the protection of our guests.
* On closing day of camps, guest groups are encouraged to release campers only to those persons YOU have authorized to pick them up. Please do not call to make alternate transportation arrangements unless it is an emergency.
Campers at Childrens Camp sessions are offered the opportunity to test their swim skills and earn a colored bracelet identifying their swim level. Most camps will use this system: green—proficient swimmer with full access to pool; yellow—less strong swimmer, has full access but with limitations; red—non swimmer or beginner encouraged to stay in the shallow end of the pool. At least one of our summer camps will use only green bands. All campers not able to earn the green band will be asked to use only the shallow end of the pool and the slide provided there. We have found this to be a very useful tool for our lifeguards in protecting your campers while in the pool. Please encourage your camper to take the swim test offered on the first day and not be apprehensive about it. We do our best to make it a simple, non threatening and positive process. We record the names of campers who have received a green band in previous summers and they are not required to retake the swim test.
If all of your questions are not answered, please contact us. We will be happy to assist you in any way that we can.
